What to expect
When you book an appointment with Dr Goold at Your sexual wellbeing clinic you will be sent two questionnaires to be completed before your appointment.
- Pre-assessment questionnaire which will provide us with some basic health information and tells us about the problem you want help with
- Sexual function evaluation questionnaire which will help us better understand the impact of your sexual problem on you and we can use this to look at progress during your treatment.
All this information is strictly confidential and can only be seen by the healthcare professional/s involved in your care. If you feel unable to fill this in beforehand, please let us know what the issues were during your appointment.
The first consultation will be up to 60 minutes long and will mainly involve talking, to fully understand the problem you have come with. Sometimes the assessment runs over several appointments. The discussion and/or examination within the consultation forms part of the treatment in many cases.
At your fist session we will discuss a therapy agreement. This covers some basic ground rules including confidentiality and some communication about what to expect. A copy of this will be kept in your records.
Additional costs
If any investigations, medical treatments, or resources are recommended this will be discussed with you either at the initial consultation or at follow-up. You will be made aware of the cost of items as required and we can discuss different strategies. We can write to your GP for routine requests available on the NHS if you would prefer and will discuss this with you first.
Onward referral/signposting
Please be assured that all health care professionals working in this service will only work within their capabilities. If we identify that you need other support, we will ensure we either make a direct referral to another healthcare professional (including your GP) or will signpost you to appropriate alternatives or resources.
Genital examination & chaperone
Depending on the problem you have sometimes a genital examination may be necessary. You will be offered a chaperone (a person who can be present in the room during the genital examination for support). It is possible to decline a chaperone if you feel this will be too difficult for you but there are some circumstances where the doctor who is seeing you will need to request to have a chaperone to conduct the examination.
For those individuals where a genital examination might be concerning to them (eg. women who experience pain), this will be undertaken at an appropriate time during a later consultation when they are ready for this. It will be undertaken at a pace that is acceptable to the individual. In some cases, this may take a few sessions.
